Early childhood educators provide care, and instruction for children aged three to five years, preparing them emotionally, socially, and academically for elementary school and beyond. Many preschool teachers work a 10-month schedule with two months off for summer vacation. Early childhood educators in a daycare setting, though, typically work year-round.

Coherent linking across the different sectors caring for young children is also a priority, in particular, at the levels of sectoral policy-making and local delivery. The improvement of quality through participatory approaches engaging staff, parents and children is also a need.

Those who succeed best in early childhood education careers are usually people comfortable assuming leadership roles, and who really enjoy a lot of interaction with others. They can stay calm when things get a bit chaotic, and yet they are also playful people who really appreciate the opportunities for creative learning and movement that are part of early childhood education. Organization is important, and being an observant person is a very valuable trait.

The assessment of students is a crucial element of a successful education, as it can help educators identify learning needs early on. ECE providers can then make parents more aware of a child’s learning style and their individual needs.
